CONNECT Hornsby

Autism Social Groups Designed for Comfort, Communication and Confidence

CONNECT is Carexcell’s social and community participation program designed to help autistic adults and teens interact at their own pace, using communication styles that feel natural and authentic. There is no pressure to talk, perform or “fit in” — instead, CONNECT offers a warm, encouraging environment where everyone is respected and welcomed exactly as they are.

What makes CONNECT different?

CONNECT Hornsby is built around three key principles:

1. Comfortable Social Spaces
Participants can choose how they interact — whether that’s conversation, observing first, or expressing themselves through gestures, writing, AAC, shared activities or creative tasks.

2. Communication Without Pressure
We support every communication style. There is no pressure to speak, no forced participation and no “icebreakers” that make people uncomfortable.

3. Confidence Through Belonging
Confidence grows naturally when people feel safe. Our facilitators create an environment where participants feel accepted, included and respected.

What Happens in CONNECT Hornsby?

CONNECT sessions vary week-to-week, but always include structured, sensory-aware activities that promote comfort, connection and self-expression.

Participants may enjoy:

  • Collaborative activities and gentle group tasks
  • Creative projects
  • Games or logic-based activities
  • Outings in the local Hornsby community
  • Life-skills based interactions
  • Conversations that build naturally
  • Quiet spaces for those who need time to regulate

Every CONNECT session is designed to help autistic participants experience community life in a way that feels positive, predictable and enjoyable.
